The ultimate goal of an AP Music Theory course is to develop a student's ability to recognize, understand, and describe the basic materials and processes of music that are heard or presented in a score. The achievement of these goals may best be approached by initially addressing fundamental aural, analytical, and compositional skills using both listening and written exercises. — College Board
The AP Music Theory incentive program seeks to strengthen the teaching of advanced music education through superior teacher training and student support programs.
- Teacher trainings deliver ongoing, quality training that is content-based and specifically designed for AP success. These opportunities allow fellow colleagues to convene and discuss updates in their field.
- Student support programs serve to motivate high school students to take AP Music Theory, achieve high goals in academics in high school and in their future college careers.
The students' and teachers' learning experiences are enriched by exposing them to outstanding local cultural resources like The Dallas Symphony and The Dallas Opera.
